Holiday Fun!

Just a reminder about a few things...

First, teachers are madly preparing report cards.  They will go home on Friday, Dec 13th.

The Humanitarian Club is selling "Candy Grams" this year.  They are $1 each and kids get to send them to others in the school.  All money earned will benefit typhoon victims in the Phillipines.

Divisions 1, 2, and 3 will be singing "Vive le Vent" during our school carolling on Wednesday, Dec 18th.  They need to memorize the lyrics and practice the song.  Here is the link to the karaoke version we've been practicing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dX0nIE6JL8

Any parents or family are welcome to learn too and join our song!

The Holiday Concert is taking place on Tuesday, Dec 17th.  There is one at 1:15 p.m. and at 7:00 p.m.  While Division 2 is not participating, the Beginner, Advanced, and Jazz Band will be playing, as will the Choir and Pop Choir.

For parents of Grade 7 students, just a reminder that mini-school applications are due Friday, Dec 20th.  More information about catchment and cross-boundary education will be sent out shortly as those deadlines begin in January.

Special shout out to Natanya K. for her amazing contribution to the assembly on Wednesday!  Her video on "Courage" was inspiring.  Great job!  We look forward to seeing more Division 2 student contributions at future assemblies.

WE Day on CTV Nov 23rd

Just a reminder that the WE Day event is being televised on CTV this Saturday, November 23rd.  It's pretty inspiring so check it out.

Division Two Updates

It's been a busy November!  We had a great time at our recent field trip to the symphony.  Thank you to Mr. Collins and Mrs. Pratt for joining us and thank you to the PAC for sponsoring the outing.  It was amazing and I think the students really enjoyed it.

In class, we've been experimenting with electricity.  The students have built real circuits as well as online simulations.  We have a test on the material Wednesday, November 27th.  After that, we will be moving onto electromagnetics!

The next assembly is also on Wednesday, November 27th at 1:15 pm.  The Pop Choir will be performing and parents are welcome.

Thank you to all those families that purchased Purdy's chocolates.  We raised just over $1000 for the Grade 7 Stepping Up ceremony.  Newsletters about our Poinsettia fundraiser went home on Thursday.  Proceeds from these beautiful plants benefit next year's Grade 6/7 camp.

One last special thank you to Henry, Michelle S, Keaton, and Jenna for their excellent MCing skills at our Remembrance Day ceremony.  We look forward to the next time they can share their talents.

Ms. Kelly's Last Day

I can't believe it's time already!  Ms. Kelly's mini-person is ready to join the world and so, her last day will be Tuesday, Oct 1st.  Please stop by and wish her good luck!  And don't worry, she'll be around and involved with Division 2 throughout the year.  What would we do without her?

Mrs. Soper will be in the classroom full time until October 22nd when a new teacher will be starting on Tuesdays and Fridays.  We'll let you know more when we know!

We wish Ms. Kelly and her family the best as they welcome their new addition!

Class Parent & Terry Fox Run

Division 2 is still looking for a class parent.  If you would be interested in helping us communicate with parents, please let us know.

Also, just a reminder that the Terry Fox run is today.  The school's fundraising goal is $2000 this year so we'd love your donations.  We hope to see you today at 11:00 for primary and 2:00 pm for intermediates.

On Tuesday morning, our Grade 6/7 students will be participating in the Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up.  We will be focussing on the duck pond in Queen Elizabeth Park.  Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather, boots and waterproof jackets would be best.

For more information about the clean-up, check out http://www.shorelinecleanup.ca/.

Grad Hoodies and Wolfe Clothing

Hope everyone had a great Pro-D day!  Us teachers spent the day talking about Math, new ways to teach it, old ways to teach it, and sharing some great ideas!  We look forward to putting these new ideas to use in class.

On Friday, students went home with notices about Grad hoodies and Wolfe clothing.  These hoodies and Wolfe T-shirts are optional purchases.  If your child is on a sports team and does not have a Wolfe T-shirt, there are spares available for use.  If you'd like to try on any of the sizes, samples are available in Room 216.

All orders due October 1st.

Also, we are looking for a class parent.  If you are interested please let us or Kate Martinez know.  Hope to see you at Meet the Staff this Thursday too!

The New Division 2

We are so excited for this year!  Division 2 is a great group of kids and we are confident that it will be a year full of learning and laughter.

Parents, we'd love it if you subscribed to this blog so you can keep up to date about things happening in the classroom.  Information about field trips, permission forms, fundraising, and other class business can be found here.

For example, all students received a permission form to participate in badminton during P.E. for the next few weeks.  The permission form and $4 needs to be returned as soon as possible.

Thanks and we look forward to meeting you all over the next few weeks!
