The Countdown to Break is On!

Take a peak at the calendar for December.  It's pretty busy, and there is still lots of fun to come!  This week, a new group project on Mesopotamia should be coming home for you to review and sign.  Please take some time to ask your child to explain their contribution and even consider making a plan of action with them.  15 minutes work everyday should make the project easy work!

Our science inquiry notes are due Tuesday at 3pm.  Students have had 2 weeks of class time, so hopefully no one is scrambling at home tonight.  We will continue to work on the project in the coming weeks.

We are also still collecting food for the Vancouver Foodbank.  If you have a donation, we would love to collect it for you as the kids of Division 2 make a small contribution to ending hunger in our city.

Please note the following upcoming dates.:

Monday, Dec 5th -            Professional Day, No School
Wednesday, Dec 7th -       Spring Concert, Div. 2 will be performing along with the band and both                                                 choirs
Friday, Dec 9th -               Report Cards Home
Monday, Dec 12 - Friday, Dec 16 - Carolling in the Halls
Friday, Dec 16th -             Last Day of School for the Winter Break

Planetarium Bound

We are so excited to head to the Planetarium tomorrow!  Thank you to Trenton's dad, Jack's mom, and Taryn's mom for helping us get there and back.  It's a pretty interesting field trip that will fit in well to the kids' Inquiry Questions.

The term ends in two weeks, and so several units are coming to a close, and several new ones are starting.  One of the important tests coming up this week, is our final Mad Minute of the term.  Kids have a ring with various multiplication facts on it.  We encourage kids to spend 5-10 min practicing their multiplication facts each day this week to prepare.  There are many Mad Minute websites.  They could also use Quizlet or Kahoot to create their own quizzes.  Check out the homework board photo tomorrow when I take it!  :)

Division 2 will be performing in the Winter Concert on December 7th.  Students will need to be at school for the show at 6:30.  We would appreciate it, if they could attend.  If should be fun!

November Notes

We have lots of things happening in the coming weeks.  We have two field trips: the Gr. 7s are heading to Hamber on Wednesday, and we head to the Planetarium on the 22nd.  For our field trip on the 22nd, we are still looking for drivers, as well as empty 2L pop bottles for an experiment at the Planetarium.

Division 2 has also decided to collect donations for the Vancouver Food Bank over the next month.  We encourage you to ask your child why we are collecting food, and to support their efforts.

Have a wonderful week.

Space: Our Next Frontier

We are so excited to start our newest science unit - Space!  Miss Kelly is going to lead the kids in an inquiry project where they can follow their passions.  To support their learning, we will be heading to the Planetarium on Tuesday, November 22nd.  It will be an amazing day!  We will need some parent drivers though, so please check your schedules.

The Grade 7s will be heading to Hamber on Wednesday, November 16th.  We ask that students meet Ms. Walker and Ms. Husdon at the main entrance of Hamber at 8:30 that morning.  Kids will need to bring their own lunch.  If you ordered hot lunch, please cancel your order for that day.  We encourage all students to join us even if they aren't planning on attending Hamber, as its a great opportunity to see what high school is like.

Div. 2 will be making a small presentation at the school's Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday.  Special thanks to Caitlin and Leila for putting all the pages together!

Halloween Fun!

Sorry for our tardiness this week!  We were too busy with Halloween festivities to post last night.  We had a great day yesterday.  Fun costumes, and a crazy Shrunken Apple Head craft!

Wait until next week for the finished products!  I sent a photo of the class all dressed in costumes out on Remind.com.  If you aren't signed up yet, send me your cell phone number, and we can invite you to join.

This week marks the start of our volleyball season with both Jr. and Sr. Girls starting games.  The Sr. Boys practice this week, but don't start games until next week.

In preparation for Remembrance Day, we have been investigating where and what Canadian soldiers are working in the world.  We will be presenting our findings on Thursday.  Be sure to ask your child about what our troops are up to.

Take a look at this week and what's coming for the rest of the month:
