Spoken Word Poetry

Wow!  Yesterday Ms. Manhas and I were treated to some amazing spoken word poetry!  Every student came up and shared a spoken word poem about an issue that was important to them.  The results were incredible.  Some were funny; some were thought provoking; some were inspiring, but all of them were brave and creative.  We encourage parents to ask your child to share their poem!  Some of them are so good they might even want to share it publicly.  If so, http://www.vancouverpoetryhouse.com/ has youth spoken word poetry nights for 13-22 year olds.  Might be something fun to do over the summer!

Thurs, May 9

We are now in the middle of working on our new Space Inquiry assignment. Students should have an inquiry question in mind, as well as 4-5 sub questions that help them answer their main inquiry question. A note sheet has been provided to help the students organize their thoughts and do their research. The notes should be handwritten and is due May. 13th2019.

Once the students have their inquiry question, their sub questions, the answers to their sub questions and a final answer to their inquiry question, they can start to work on their digital presentation. Remember, the sub questions are the “evidence” portion of the assignment that helps support and explain the inquiry question.

The digital presentation (Sway, Powerpoint, Prezi etc.) must be shared to Ms. Manhas atemanhas@vsb.bc.ca by May.21st 11:59pm(although I recommend handing it in earlier).

For the presentations, student have 3-5 minutes to share their inquiry question as well as the sub questions with answers.
Remember to make the presentation engaging; how can you include the rest of the class? Can you show a quick 30 second video clip of something relevant? What visuals will help you during your presentations?

Don't forget a bibliography!
