Last Day of School

What a wild year in Division One!  While we were robbed of the Spring together, we gained so much.  We learned some impressive tech skills; we learned to communicate differently; we learned to appreciate our relationships; we took creative risks; we learned to cook and bake and craft; we danced; we laughed; we talked.  We are so proud of all of you.  We hope you enjoy your summer.

Thank you so much for your support as we moved online, and for your willingness to jump in!  Thank you as well, for your generous end of year gifts.  We really appreciate your sweet messages and your appreciation.  We are looking forward to a break, so we are ready to rock in September.

Week of June 15th

To Do:

ime Capsule: This is the last Time Capsule entry and it’s time to wrap things up with a reflection/recap.  Make a cover page, write a letter to your future self, or just add a little context. Think about summarizing the theme or overall experience of this time so that when you, your child, or your grandchild read it in the future, they have an introduction to what Covid-19 is and why you made this time capsule.  See assignment for more details.  

     

Poetry: Now that you’ve found a poem that connects with you, it’s time to share it.  This week you need to practice reciting your poem, and film yourself performing it as spoken word.  The object of this assignment is to practice using your voice and phrasing to convey what you think are the most important messages in the poem.  Don’t just read your poem!  You can memorise it or just have it off camera for hints.   See the assignment for more details.  

First Book of the Summer: Use our class reading list, or do your own research and select the first novel to read for the summer!  Please submit your book choice by Friday, June  19th.   Once you are finished reading it, please add it to our class book list for others to refer to for their next books!  You can find it in Teams, Files.     

  

Math 7 Ravenclaw/Segers:  Colour By Number Review.  See assignment for more details.  

  

Math 7 Hufflepuff/Jekubik:  Check your Khan Academy accounts to see what's been assigned.  You have several weeks worth of material on there. You are permitted to work ahead, but you must finish the assigned tasks by their due dates. The due dates for the new assignments on KA are correct.     

    

Math 6:        

1. Please watch the attached video before Thursday's live lesson and complete Jump 6.2 p. 168-169, 170-174.  
2. Watch the 4 Khan Academy videos and complete the 1 activity on Volume.   

   

P.E. & Fine Arts: Can we share them with the class? We’d love to watch them at our class meeting next week. If you don’t want us to, please email Mrs. Soper or Ms. Kelly.

Flip through this month’s “Science News”. There are lots of cool articles including one on way otters play!  Adorable!

FRENCH: You’ve listened to songs, watched a movie, what other Francophone arts can you explore?

P.E: Tennis courts, golf courses, and even disc golf courses are open!  Never played? Who cares?! Get outside and play a socially distanced game with a friend.

Time Capsule: Try to complete and submit your ninth entry by Sunday, June 14th please.  See the Literacy Tab for more details.   You should have 9 entries completed by the end of this week. 

    

Novel Study:    

a.       Spend a few minutes this week adding your book to our Summer Reading List.  Follow the format on the sheet, and add your book to the list.  If you didn’t like it, tell us why so we can avoid it in the future.     We will add your entry to our master list and share it once we have them all.

Poetry: So much is happening in the world right now, and poetry can be great way to explore and express one’s feelings about it.  Your task this week is to choose a poem that speaks to you. Submit it and a reflection explaining why you chose this poem by Friday.  See the assignment for more details.

P.E. & Fine Arts: TikTok is so hot right now!  I can’t go anywhere with seeing kids TikToking. Your challenge over the next 2 weeks is to either learn and share a short TikTok dance of your choice (only school appropriate songs please!), or choreograph your own and share it.  It can be shared on video or in person.  You do not have to be good!  Have fun with it!  The object of this activity is to learn a dance, not be a dancer!   

Core Competency Goals: At the end of year, every student in B.C. needs to reflect on their core competencies.  We have been doing this throughout the year, so you guys are pretty amazing at it.  You need to complete 3 sheets, one for Communication, a second for Thinking, and a third for Personal Growth.  Think about the things you are great at, and the things you still need to work on... Check out our Core Competencies Wall, Padlet, and the Core Competencies document in our Class Notebook.

Week of June 1st

Here we are in the next phase!  About 1/2 the class is joining us in the school on Wednesday.  Online education will be continuing for all with some small scheduling changes.  Monday's class meeting will be at 10am and everyone must attend whether they are coming to school or staying at home.  Math lessons for all classes have been moved to Thursdays at 11.  All students in Mrs. Segers and Mrs. Soper's math classes must attend, and Ms. Jekubik will have her optional help period at the same time. 

TO DO:

Novel Study:    

a.       This week you will be completing your 4^th and final assignment.  Choose a question from a section you haven’t done yet.  Be insightful, creative, and try to wow us!

Gr. 7 Speech: Part of the Stepping Up ceremony every year includes a speech from members of the Stepping Up class.  Each year, every Gr. 7 student writes a speech, and some step forward for consideration to read their speech at the ceremony.  This year, the teachers in each class will narrow the speeches put forth for consideration down to a few, and then share them anonymously.  You will get a chance to vote for your favourites.  The favourite speech from each division will be combined and shared by the authors at Stepping Up.  Even if you don’t want to be that person, here is your chance to share at least with your teachers your favourite memories of Wolfe.  The speech is due on Wednesday, June 3^th. Voting will take place the following Monday. See assignment for more details.

Gr. 6 Warning Letter: Write a letter to warn next year's class about your teachers!  What drives them crazy?  What does they love? What can you do to get in their "good books"?  What are their expectations and/or classroom routines?  What other important things do you think next year's class needs to know about them? Be creative, but be sure you follow the proper letter writing format.  See the assignment for more details.

b.       Financial Literacy Package: Use your knowledge of decimals and percentages to practical use!  There are 2 Khan Academy videos to watch before you start.

  

PE:  Spend some time reflecting about how you are taking care of yourself.  How have exercise, food, and sleep changes during this time changed the way you feel?  Have you noticed things that make you feel great?  What are the things that don’t?  How do you avoid them?  See the assignment for more details.   

Gr. 7 Stepping Up Questionnaire: Ms. Kelly has been cooking up something amazing for Stepping Up.  Your assignment this week is to answer some questions reflecting on your time at General Wolfe and then create a Power Point page to represent those reflections.  Much like the gratitude slide show, design a page that represents your thoughts and personality.  You can include photos, images and words.  Be creative!  See assignment for more details.  Due June 3^rd.

Gr. 7 Song: While we are unable to compose and create an original song this year due to social distancing, Mr. Mathewson has an amazing idea!  He has created an assignment where each grade 7 student 1will record a line of a song, and he will put it all together into one.  It’s going to be amazing.  See Assignment for more details.  Due June 5^th.

FRENCH: Did you enjoy the French song you chose for last week’s assignment?  This week, try a movie!  Search for a Francophone film, but turn on your English subtitles.  Try “A Monster in Paris” or “The Painting”. I haven’t seen them yet, but I read that they are amazing!
