Welcome to Division 3!

Welcome to Division 3! Miss Kelly and I are thrilled to have such a great group of grade 5s and 6s this year! We've really enjoyed getting to know them, and can't wait to support them this year.  This blog is updated every Monday night with detailed information on homework, field trips, and projects, as well as links to interesting articles.

This year, we are going to train the students to post a photo of the homework board each afternoon as well, so parents can stay abreast of assignments throughout the year.

Coming this week:
- Meet the Teacher Night is Wednesday at 6:00
- Terry Fox Run has been rescheduled to Thursday at 11:00 am
- Paper Terry Fox donations will be accepted until Friday. Online donations will be accepted all year!

We look forward to meeting you all soon and look forward to a great year.

More Geniuses and Some Thank Yous for a Great Year

What a year!  A wonderful Stepping Up ceremony, a fun last day together, and now summer!  Sorry this last post is so late.  I left town right after school Friday and just returned, but I haven't forgotten some special geniuses of note and some shout outs!

First, looking for something to do this summer?  Why not volunteer somewhere or even put a care package together for kids in need.  That's exactly what Leila is going to do.  Check out her Genius Hour project.  Maybe it will inspire you!

You could also find Ethan's YouTube channel where he shows you how to make a fidget spinner, or start following _endanimaltesting_ on Instagram!  While Danny will be working to create a kinetic generator for use in the 3rd World, Marco is working on a design for a single food product that would be enough calories to last a day and fits in your pocket... and there are so many more inspiring ones!  I've posted all I have now.  If your child wants to share theirs, send it to me please!

Here is an impactful look at suicide prevention by Lauren:

Finally, a big THANK YOU!  To a wonderful group of students, to Libby Taylor our class parent, and to all the other parents who supported their child's growth and development this year.  And thank you all for the thoughtful and generous end of year gifts.  Thank you so much for thinking of us.  Have an amazing summer!

Genius Hour Geniuses!

Wow!  Wow!  I am inspired, delighted, and thrilled with the many ways that Division 2 plans on changing the world - and we've only seen half the projects.   Today we heard about creating an artificial pancreas, an app to inform parents when their child is experiencing cyber bullying, gender bias in the workplace, and so, so much more!

There are a few of presentations that could be excellent resources for the future.  Information on Drug Addiction, Suicide Prevention, and even a book list for summer reading!

Important End of Year Dates

Sorry for the belated blog post!  First, I want to start by raving about camp!  The kids were outstanding and everyone had an amazing time.  Honestly, it was one of the best camp experiences we, as teachers, have ever had.  The kids were polite, enthusiastic, kind to one another, and demonstrated gratitude.  And a special thanks to Camp Jubilee.  The staff were professional, fun, and the food was yummy!  What a great year!

There are lots of things happening as we wind up the year.

Important Dates:
Thursday, June 22 - Desks and lockers cleaned out. Bring a bag.
Friday, June 23 - Playland!
Wednesday, June 28 - 9:30 Grade 7 Stepping Up Ceremony and then Kits Beach.
Thursday, June 29 - 9:15 Awards Assembly, Last Day of School, & Report Cards

Camp!

Things are pretty crazy in Division 2 right now.  I am sorry I keep forgetting to take a photo of the homework board!  Most importantly, camp is on Monday!

Here are some reminders:

  • All students need to be at Wolfe by 8:30 am on Monday.
  • Students will return Wednesday around 12:30 pm.  Students will be exhausted, and so will be dismissed once they've unloaded the buses and gathered their belongings.
  • Students need to pack 2 bags:
    • 1 with clothing, sleeping bag/pillow, and 'non-meltables',
    • and a second with 'meltable' (ie. toiletries, flashlight, liquids).
    • The complete list was sent home after Spring Break and I posted the link on last week's blog.
  • Electronic devices and food items are strictly prohibited.
  • All medications (including Advil etc.) are to be bagged, labelled with name and instructions, and given to Ms. Husdon prior to boarding the bus.
Mrs. Soper will be there the first night, and Miss Kelly will be there for the second night, so we are there to help with homesickness pangs, or anything else that comes up.  If you have any questions, feel free to email.

Fingers crossed for some sunshine.

June is Here!

There is a ton happening in our favourite month of the year!  Check out the calendar for important dates.  It's also time to start thinking about camp.  Be sure and check the packing list, and take special notice of the heat treatment room information.  There are also two assemblies, a Service Assembly on Friday, June 9th and one on the last day of school as well.

Greeting Cards for the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre

Attention all Division 2 friends and family:

Something special came home in your Friday folder this week!  Every student received a copy of the greeting card they created out of their poverty themed watercolour.   They turned out amazingly well and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to share with the world while raising money for such a great cause.   Please consider buying a set (or a two, or three...) of cards.  100% of the profits from the cards go straight to the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre.   (Please note, only 25% of special items ordered online will go to our charity.)  Special thanks to our Artist in Residence Susan MacCullum and Marcelle at The Card Project for all your support!

Check out the order form that went home Friday, our display beside the office, or our table at the Spring Concert tomorrow night!

Lots of great stuff happening right now.  Our poverty essays are almost done, our novel study projects are under way, and we are ready to start something new and great in social studies.  And of course, Sports Day is on Friday!

Have a great week!
