Wed, Dec. 19

Wow! I cannot tell you how impressive your children were today. They walked into a pretty intense ward at the Youville Residences and acted with respect and friendliness. I was moved watching them interact with these sick and lonely seniors.  They shook hands, gave cards, played games, and conversed in multiple languages.  Even the staff at the home were impressed with our very special day.  Special thanks to those parents who drove today and made this field trip possible (even if it didn’t rain).  We are looking forward to heading back there in February!

Also, just a reminder that over 10 kids have no yet brought in their secret Santa gifts that were due today! Thursday at the latest please!

Monday 17 December 2018

Carolling in the halls started today!  Our class will be playing along tomorrow, so we hope you will join us.

We have a field trip to the Youville Seniors Centre on Wednesday.  We are planning on walking, but if the weather is crazy, we may be looking for some rides!  Let me know if you are available.

Wednesday 12 December 2018

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the Winter Concert and your child is performing.  The dress rehearsal is at 1pm and the actual show is at 6:30, arrive at 6:15. Students have been asked to wear all black for both events, and come with their instrument and sheet music.

Tuesday 11 December 2018

Tues, Dec. 11

It was a wet one today!  Those in sneakers and hoodies got very, very wet, but the show was awesome.  It was a great glimpse into high school life and a great way to sell participating in Mr. Mathewson's band!

We have another walking field trip next week, when we go and visit Youville Residences (near Hamber).  Please ensure you send the form back before Monday and have your child dress for walking in whatever weather!  Also, we will be making cards for the Seniors, but I'm sure they would appreciate any little trinket, gift, or baking you feel like contributing.

Monday 10 December 2018

And a special congratulations to the Senior Girls Volleyball team on a great season, especially our Div. 1 players Maya and Talia!

No homework board photo today as I left early with the Senior Boys volleyball team today. They played amazingly well st today’s semifinals and just barely missed the finals.  Special shout out to Markus & Owen from our class!

Also, a reminder about our field trip tomorrow. Thanks to Nova’s mom Sandy for joining us.  Don’t forget your compass cards of bus fare for each way.

Just a couple reminders:

Friday is Play Day!  Time to practice our creativity, cooperation, and patience.  Please encourage your child to bring games, toys, and crafts without batteries on Friday.

We are going on a field trip to the Central Branch of the public library next week.  Students need to bring a full compass card, or bus fare for two trips on that day.  Exact change is required.  Students will also need a public library card.  If you already have one, it's time to dig it up.  If not, I have forms to apply for one!  We are also looking for a volunteer to join us that day.  Let me know if you are interested!  Thank you!

Goal Setting Conferences

It's goal setting conference time!  Your child has been thinking about their learning and set some goals for themselves that they'd like to share.  Most of you should have your conference times already, but if you don't feel free to contact Miss Kelly & Mrs. Soper via email to set something up.  Rosemary also has a copy of our schedule.

Please note, our conferences are a bit more relaxed than other classes.  Your child has set their goals, and Miss Kelly and I have seen and commented on them.  Come in and get started sharing those goals even if there are other families in the room.  Miss Kelly and I will give each family 15 minutes of our time to review, but you are welcome to stay and discuss the classroom or goals for as long as you want, just be respectful of the other families in the room.  If you feel that a more private meeting is required, we can set it up for a later date!

We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Tues, Oct. 16

You may see some Day I Was Born projects at home tonight!  We spend some time looking at each other's projects, and each student found 2 things about their project that need to be fixed, changed, or improved.  Please ask your child what 2 things they are going to improve tonight.  All projects will be considered final at 11:50 tomorrow!

Don't forget that all students should be at school by 8am on Thursday in order to take advantage of the band tutorials offered by the UBC Music department.  Bring your instruments and your books!

Thurs, Oct. 10 - PEN Numbers

Another great day!  Ask your child about atoms. Also, each child received their PEN Number.  This is the Personal Education Number given to all students by the government. This number is needed to register for summer school, the mini school test, and other information and will be used throughout your child’s public education career. It’s on the front page of your child’s planner.

Wed, Oct. 10 & F.S.A. Testing

Hi everyone!  I forgot to hand out the F.S.A. letters from the teacher's union today, but they have some interesting information about the upcoming Foundation Skills Assessment that will be happening later this month for Gr. 4 & 7 students.  Please read the information that will be coming home tomorrow!

Tuesday 9 October 2018

Tues, Oct. 9

Hope everyone had an amazing weekend!  Today was a great day in Division 1.  Miss Kelly and I are really enjoying how the class is gelling as a team.  It's going to be a great year.

Please remember to ask you child how their Day I Was Born project is going.  Projects are to be completed by Monday, so students should be finished their notes and creating their presentation/project/poster/movie etc.  Just a reminder that all the information on the outline and notes sheet needs to be included in the finished project.  If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to ask!
