We had a quick talk today about all the demands of this next month.  There is A LOT going on.  While there won't necessarily be a lot of homework, there will be something every day.  It's really important to stay on top of things.  Once you fall behind, it will be very hard to catch up.  Please feel free to help your child manage their time and encourage them to do a small bit of work each day.

If things are getting stressful at home, please feel free to reach out and we will help!

Mon, Jan 14 - Kleenex Please!

We are in desperate need of more kleenex/facial tissue in the classroom.  If you have already donated some, thank you so much, but we are all out!  We would love some more boxes to get us through this season of runny noses!  Thanks.

Also, all students in the Tupper catchment received their high school applications today.  We will collect them for you until Jan. 31st.  Hamber catchment students will need to download their own applications and hand them in directly to Hamber's office before the end of the month.  Cross boundary applications will be accepted at all Vancouver schools between Feb. 1 - 28.

Literature Circle Audiobooks

Hopefully you've seen your child's Lit Circle book at home so far this week, or at least some time this weekend.  We fully encourage students to download the audiobook or ebook to accompany their reading if they think it will help them.  The following are links to either the Vancouver Public Library audiobooks which can be downloaded to a device with a library card, or a link to the eBook that may have an audio option, or even to a CD which you can place a hold.  The West Vancouver Library also has a great collection of audiobooks that can be downloaded to your device, you just need a library card.  (I have one for this very purpose; if you want some help let me know.)

Many audiobooks are also available online.  Amazon has its own audiobook app called Audible.  Search your book on Amazon and select the audio option.  Your first book is free!

If you have any trouble, we are here to help!

Happy New Year Division 1!

Welcome to 2019!  We are really looking to the rest of this year.  We have big plans and lots of fun coming!  This week the kids have organised a Gr. 6/7 dance tomorrow afternoon and we are skating at 1:30 on Friday.  On Wednesday, we are starting Literature Circles!  They are one of my favourite units of the year.  This year, we are doing Gr. 6/7-wide lit circles, so students will have the opportunity to work with kids from all the classes.   Ask you child what book they are reading on Wednesday!

Over the break I read an amazing article summarizing the way we learn.  We talk a lot about filing cabinets and pathways in the classroom, but I love how this article talked about downtime, reflection, and space.  It's worth the read!
