Wed, Feb. 21 - Homework Board

The countdown to Spring Break is here!  Lots of big things happening!  Your child should be hard at work on their Lit Circle newspaper articles.  Each student will be submitting 1 larger article, 1 news reporter article, and 2 smaller articles.  The group will consolidate all their articles into one newspaper!  Here's the assignment sheet for your information:

Final Newspaper Assignment

All the novels in our Literature Circles this year related to the themes of Friendship & Trust.  With those themes in mind, each Literature Circle group will create a 3-page newspaper about your novel.  All the articles should relate to the characters, events, setting, and theme of the novel

When creating your newspaper think about the important symbols or images from the bookand even voice of the author and style of the book.  Your newspaper should imitate and celebrate different aspects of your novel. Don’t forget to   MAKE CONNECTIONS, INFERENCES, AND TRANSFORMATIONS!

Your newspaper must include the following types of articles:
  • “News Reporter” role article from each group member on an event from your reading,
  • At least one large article about the local political scene
  • At least one large article about each main character,
  • At least one large editorial or opinion piece from a minor character’s perspective,
  • One large travel or geography article about your setting.

Please do not duplicate the topics of your articles.  (For example, only one person can write about Ivy finding the secret door.)

Your newspaper could include, but are not limited to, the following types of articles:
  • Weather report,
  • Birth, marriage, and obituaries,
  • Advertisements,
  • Other sections or articles common to newspapers (crosswords, comics, etc.)

Please make sure these additional articles are relevant to the story and say something about the character, setting, theme, events, writing, or symbols of the story.
