Week of May 18th

Happy Victoria Day!  Hope everyone had a relaxing long weekend.  I really enjoyed the surprise sunshine.  I'm sure many of you have questions about the government's announcement about going back to school.  We do too!  The district is still working with other Lower Mainland school districts to formulate a plan and they need to have that plan completed and shared by the end of the week.  We are so at excited that we might get to go back, even if it's just for a few days!

Here's a look at our week:

TO DO:
Time Capsule: Try to complete and submit your fifth entry by Sunday, May 24th please.  See the Literacy Tab for more details.   You should have 6 entries completed by the end of this week.

Novel Study:
a.       You should be finishing your book this week!  We will continue to discuss our novels in the Small Group Meetings, so think about what you might want to share.  Use sticky notes, a Reading Power sheet, or even a journal to keep track of your questions, inferences, connections, visualization, and transformation.
b.       This week you will be completing your 2nd assignment.  You need to choose a question from a different section.  Be sure to choose a question that you can answer (for example don’t choose to talk about the ending if you haven’t finished reading yet), and make sure you can share your deep understanding.
c.       Just a reminder, if you have a cool way of presenting your assignment, or a better idea for a question, talk to Ms. Kelly or Mrs. Soper and do it!  The goal is to show us how deeply you understand, appreciate, and connect to the various aspects of the story.

Math 7 Ravenclaw/Segers:  Probability Game Assignment due May 27th. Come to Wednesday math class with your idea, design and questions. You should have constructed most of your game by Wednesday. Entire project due for presentation and submission on May 27th.

Math 7 Hufflepuff/Jekubik Check your Khan Academy accounts to see what's been assigned.  You have 3-weeks worth of material on there. You are permitted to work ahead, but you must finish the assigned tasks by their due dates. The due dates for the new assignments on KA are correct.

Math 6:
a.      Please watch the attached video before Wednesday's live lesson.  The assignment this week includes 5 Jump* math pages and a Mrs. Soper's Extra Questions sheet.  Please complete the Jump pages, and upload the Mrs. Soper's Extra's for assessment.  I have also included an extra Jump page that is optional, but good practice.   *Please note: The Jump Pages are photos and therefore don't print well.  Use your judgement, but maybe answer them on a piece of lined paper instead of printing them off.  (Just write the answers.)  If you have the Jump 6.2 at home, they are p. 39-42 and p.43-44 are optional.
b.       Watch the 2 Khan Academy videos and complete the 2 assignments on Dividing Decimals by Friday, May 22nd. Make sure you click the “Turn-In” button in Teams Assignments when you are done.

Career:  Spend some time examining your 1-Pgr and your rubric (sent via email) and set a goal in My Blueprint before Wednesday.  Think about places where you excelled or where you may need to focus while completing your Novel Study assignments.  What Core Competency areas do they relate?

Fine Arts: Cards for Seniors.  Ms. Zheng (one of our kindergarten teachers) volunteers for an organization that connects kids with Seniors.  Since our local care homes are closed to visitors at the moment, her organization is collecting photos of cards, poems, posters, art, videos, etc. to send to the residents of those homes.  Much like we did before the winter holidays, we are asking you to send a message to the Seniors living in isolation.   Your amazing contribution is due on Friday, May 22nd.   See the assignment and the Fine Arts tab in the Class Notebook for more details.
